Study credits are credits, which are to serve for the financing of the cost of living and/or possible study fees.

In Germany (and has also further) the student financial assistance scheme had the task, to carry which cost of living - if parents of the student have little earnings/services in the sense of the law and some further boundary conditions are fulfilled. Offerer of study credits gave it therefore only for the financing of expensive private higher education courses.

Since at the beginning of of 2005 - with the judgement of the Federal Constitutional Court, which made study fees possible in the countries - strengthened over supplementing (for the financing of the study fees) or alternative loan models discusses. In order to be in this business from the outset thereby, in the meantime some banks submitted plans for study credits.

KfW Studienkredit

For the first time the KfW bankers' syndicate briefly presented its idea for a study credit after the judgement of the Federal Constitutional Court to the study fee prohibition in the university framework law (which was tilted). In particular the KfW chairman of the board realm wants to open thereby the KfW a new market - that for the education financing, which with study fees is only worthwhile oneself so correctly.

The study credit serves for the financing the living standard and has - in such a way the KfW is reported - as a goal of increasing and on the other hand in particular for the high school graduates from wealthy families a study of not making possible on the one hand altogether the number of the college graduates. The latter is task student financial assistance scheme, which is to 50% a subsidy, the remainder is however actually an interest-free loan - on the other hand the study credit is very expensive (100% loan, pays interest on).

The KfW Studienkredit does a credit rating and without collateral. It is to all German studying (in addition still European Union foreigners and "“education residents"”) at all nationally recognized universities at the disposal, if the applicants 31. Lebensjahr not yet completed and still no study locked.

The credit is aligned completely by the KfW. The consultation and the request acceptance assigned the KfW local selling partner.

Since 3 April 2006 requests can be submitted with these selling partners (see Related links).
