With gross surface area/BGF one marks that surface, which is calculated by the sum of all surface areas of all ground planes of a building in the DIN 277. Thus the gross surface area covers all full projectiles of a building contrary to the floor area (AP) plus underground surfaces (cellar area, underground parkings, etc.) the gross surface area is into the net surface area (short NGF) and into the construction surface area (short KGF) divides. According to the DIN 277 of 1987 the gross surface area results from the sum of the three ranges A, b and C. these three ranges is defined as follows:

  • Range A: Covered and generally in full height enclosed. In the pattern diagram red represented surfaces.
  • Range b: Covered, however generally in full height did not enclose. In the pattern diagram green represented surfaces.
  • Range C: Did not cover ranges. In the pattern diagram blue drawn in ranges.

The outside mass of the construction units including the lining becomes like e.g. Finery in floor height set. Constructionally or formatively caused pre and returns at the exterior surfaces remain unconsidered. Not to be considered in addition:

  • Crawl space
  • Cellar pits
  • Fliers
  • not usable roof areas or constructionally caused cavities

However also the not removed roof spaces are considered.
