Building cost index, also construction cost index, is the name for an index for the evaluation of the development of the building costs.

For Germany by the Federal Statistical Office the following indices are determined and published:

• conventional new building in the above ground construction (residential building, office building and commercial factory),
• New building design (prefabricated buildings), prefabricated by a family buildings in,
• New building in the foundation engineering (roads, bridges, local channels) and
• Maintenance of multi-family buildings.
